at 61.8% position, 804 km to go is same as Alexandra Headland to Sydney accoring to my Google Earth; seems hard to belive that's correct.

I really wish the site could be updated better. Apart from the "now position" with no info, the last position update is 5 days old. Not good enough. It's not that hard to do surely. I am a New Zealander watching with interest, but that is waning due to poor coverage. Trevor.

Just looking at wind direction forecasts approaching New Year - looks to me (someone with no ocean experience) like increasingly unfavourable strong winds. The boys seem very fatigued. Should they perhaps concentrate on getting more rest and picking up their strength, especially in view of more difficult times ahead? They don't seem to have much left in reserve, especially physically, if they hit more difficult times. I really feel for them - they have encountered many obstacles and battled on through them! Wishing them safely to NZ!!!!!

Greenfrog448 Wow! you have made great headway and it must have been wonderful to see the whale, a magnificant sight to be sure. Here in Londonderry Australia it has been 22 with two bad storms late this afternnon. Blaxland is without power and some damage to properties so I guess they got the worse of the storm.
God speed and again Happy Landing

Way to go guys! You are on the home stretch now so don't get sloppy. Every moment you spend for the next few days will be the most remembered of your journey. Start envisioning yourselves dealing with a little culture shock as you get mobbed by tons of people wanting to experience every moment you did not share. Picture yourselves giving speeches and talks to hundreds of people asking silly questions. You have entered an elite club of adventurers & explorers and the responsibility to educate is sometimes an unexpected byproduct of your new fame.

My paddling partner and myself wish you the best success with the next phase of your great adventure! We will be attempting another great adventure like yours, in 2009 on a different part of the planet.

    Hi,

I have been monitoring the progress of "crossing the ditch for some days now". I work with the BoM,
and have been monitoring the sea waves/swell models from one of our models (LAPS). Please note I am not a
meteorologist or forecaster, but at looking at the model output, I am pleased at the sea surface wind direction.

If significant progess is to be made, then now is the time. The current progess bar completed is 78%. I am sure
    further gains can be made.

The photos submitted from the crew are awesome esp. the one showing Lot 41 dunking in to the sea during that
heavy swell. I saw similar ( but not dunking) on my return from Macquarie Is. years ago on the "Nella Dan".

I wish you guys "God speed" and a safe return.

    Cheers

    Hey James & Justin,
For starters i think that you guys are doing a truely incredibly amazing job, you are inspiring so many people here on dry land to do things that they thought they could never do. I keep talking to all my friends about you guys and the amazing job you're doing can I ask what actually made you guys want to do this.
I saw you guys on the news bout 10 minutes ago saying that you're being surrounded by these two sharks, hmm scary! but its kool as you have each other and all over us here praying for you to get to the final destination safely and God is always on your side and dont forget he will and has been there with you to pull you out of all the tough times. Luke 1v37
Bummer that you guys are running behind abit with your schedule but I think we would all rather have you guys home. And for James for sure when you get back Jess and I will be waiting to celebrate!
Also on the news they showed another team that is kayaking from NZ to Sydney but there is 4 of them and sorry but i know that the job you guys are doing is like stressful, draining and hard and all that but you guys have shown that you dont need the extra 2 people to help you achieve your dream.
We are extremly proud of you boys and I cant wait to see that you made it to your destination safely
take care and GOd bless both of you. you boys can do this prove to everyone it can be done
    stay strong and stand firm
    Keep Smiling, shining and inspiring
    Luv Priscilla xx

This is such an incredible journey for you guys one can only imagine, and thats very difficult for someone who is not knowledgeable about the sea,the experience it is one of a lifetime for you. Hopefully you will write a book and I will be out there to purchase it.
Its very warm here in Londonderry, we went to Bathurst yesterday it was 36 degrees.

    Hi Justin & James.

We first heard about your expedition in October at a computer conference you spoke at in Melbourne. Since then, my wife and I have been following your adventures on the web every day.

We think what you doing is fantastic, and so inspirational. The fact that you are still so positive after all the time you have spent, can only be attributed to the preparation you did, and your strong characters.

We are watching from Melbourne, urging you on to complete this sooner rather than later, and that you receive the welcome into New Zealand that you deserve.

All the best, and keep on paddling.
  8.
    Justin and James,
I am an Aussie in the USA and am enthralled by your epic journey.
As you battle your mountain every day, stroke by stroke, wave by wave, you would likely have no idea or at least easily forget that people like me are logging on every few hours hoping to see that all is well and that you have made or are making good progress.
So guys as you get up and get back into it or face yet another wave or obstacle of some description, please know that there are so many out there like me that are with you in your attempts.
Every chance I get I check in and look at direction, speed and daily progress.
I then talk to people about you here and ask if they are aware of you two.... invariably I have to say that they are not but they ARE by the time I am finished.
I don't know what is in you that gives you the courage to take on something as big as an ocean but I want you to know I admire your obvious professionalism and perseverance.
So, if you are ever wondering where to get that last ounce of energy or inspiration ( which I doubt given your performance so far) maybe the fact that you are GIVING energy and inspiration to folks like me will help you strive to go further and harder.
    I hope so anyway.
Anyway guys, may the sea be kind to you and Lot 41 from here on in. (Hey by the way, I was sayijg to someone here the other day that you must not have been to NZ, as otherwise you would not go to all this trouble to get there. Ha! Just kidding. It isn't the place that is the problem. It is just that there are so many Kiwis there. Ha! Sorry Kiwis couldnt resist.)
    Safe travels.
    JP

Watching with great interest as you head to NZ-I am wondering how much weight you may have lost? Great to hear your story on the 4th, guess you were lucky that this fellow was focused elsewhere but what an experience. It has been very hot here in Londonderry 36 but we are luckier than other places that are under water and folk have lost everything. I am excited for you and cannot imagine how you will feel when you land but I am sure I will read about it. Keep on paddling and God Speed

Hi guys just want to say that I am in UK and following your awesome achievment on a daily basis via your emails - I was concerned to hear about the two large sharks showing more interest in you both than is healthy whilst you were settling down to sleep in the womb of Her Majesty. I trust you have a great nights sleep and will soon make Land in New Zealand. You are both heros and an inspiration to all keep paddling.

Justin and James I, like many others, feel you have done more for Australian/New Zealand relations than anyone since the Anzacs. Somehow your journey has brought these 2 wonderful countries together where on other fields of endevour we are seen as enemies.....Rubgy,cricket, netball. But those antagonists are purely mortals who now only know, through your example, what the "hard yards" are all about. The distance you have travelled has been longer than intended but the effects you have had is more than you dreamed.
    Safe landing the Millers.

Well done guys!! Just to confirm to your team....Peter Vanlith at Canoe and kayak New Plymouth is probably the most knowledgeable kayaker to quiz for information. He has a history of sailing and kayaking and is familiar with Taranaki weather. He has sea-kayaked extensively along the Taranaki coast, so will be knowledgeable about most landing spots between New Plymouth and Raglan. I also sea-kayak, and hope to join you in a happy landing. Well Rats one and two, seems as though you have almost made the marketing coup of the year. I know you wanted to have an Ezyline on board, but never mind I know it's in your heart...who knows you might just whip out a few links to hold us together across the Tasman(notionally). You at least need to make sure your nickers are clean for the landing.James, that haircut is looming and your sweet loving sister is polishing those shears for the event. Please tell us all if you can see those mountain tips luring you in to your destinies as paddlers for the human spirit. Your site MUST be equipped with at least AWstats.Regardless I am not swamped by your journey and its implications, just a keen follower of the unfolding lives of two great blokes.
    Focus, and then again.

Greetings Guys, Wow! those Nautical miles are coming down and I pray that the sea is kind to ye. 33 degrees in Londonderry AU. a joke to make you laugh.
I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes. We decided to grab a bite at the food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him. The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors: green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at him. The teenager would look and find him staring every time.
When the teenager had enough, he sarcastically asked, 'What's the matter ! old man , never done anything wild in your life?'
Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response; knowing he would have a good one. And in classic style he did not bat an eye in his response, 'Got drunk once and had sex with a peacock. I was just wondering if you were my son.

On a practical side something to be aware of, there is a bar in both Kaphia and Ragland with the forecast this should be no problem but the tide against the wind can make it a bit tricky.
Ragland should in my opinion be a better landing if you can make it , more infrastructure . Once you have arrived and the hoopla is over has there been any arrangements made for the kayak it will have to be uplifted or at least watched over until it is. The Oomagoolie tribe are known to be in this area and cannot be trusted.

    Hi Patrick.
I don't know if has been considered or not, but the only secure way to receieve donations for the guys is to set up a westpac type account, where people can donate directly into an account, could be an ideal opportunity for crooks to walk the beach ripping off well intending people.
Hard to imagine, but we all know there are people out there like that.

Moving along and great to see, happy paddling and may the seas be kind to ye both.
    a joke
Why doesn’t the sea spill over the earth?
    Because it’s tied!
A young boy and his doting grandmother were walking along the sea shore when a huge wave appeared out of nowhere, sweeping the child out to sea. The horrified woman fell to her knees, raised her eyes to the heavens and begged the Lord to return her beloved grandson. And, another wave reared up and deposited the stunned child on the sand. The grandmother looked the boy over carefully. He was fine

But still she stared up angrily toward the heavens. "When we came," she snapped indignantly, "he had a hat!"!!!!

May you have a peaceful and positive mind and arrive on land soon.
