Jan Tully, I'd say go for it ... I don't think they would feel it was an invasion of privacy. Doesn't hurt to do random acts of kindness! Not sure how you could find his real name, but maybe try emailing him today (his email is in earlier posts)

    Jan Tully-
    re Ol Oiler...
he left his email so we can harass him ;-)
I wonder if he realises that he will have to start up a forum for us?!
Well, he's gonna have a lot of spare time sitting in hospital isn't he?
    Perhaps we could suggest www.oloiler.com

ah... wasn't it good to get some sleep last night? I slept like a baby without one worry about dip n pull.

All thoughts need to stay with our wonderful rats. Just cos they've landed doesn't mean the hard work is over. Recovery. Recovery. Recovery.

Hearty congratulations, Justin and James. Both of you have taken goal-setting to new heights and we applaud you for your mighty, history-making achievement.

Your journey captured the imagination of staff and students who followed your trials and tribulations with great interest. The teachers who monitored your daily steps while you were at school were in awe at the technological wizardry and engaging format of the website which allowed them to keep an eye on you far beyond the school gates! The satellite tracking and podcast hook-ups allowed us to share snippets of your amazing journey, yet we marvelled at the real-time distance which separated the comfort zone laptop environment from a vast, sometimes unforgiving, ocean. How pleased we were when the news broke that you were safe and well. To see your confident smiles as you waded ashore having achieved your dream was uplifting.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the terra firma of Wahroonga before you once again set your sights on a new challenge. Many congratulations, boys, we are so proud of you.

    PH & Carol Isabel,

What a gift u have in arranging words.. your bewtiful writings are on the page b4 this but wow!! i i hope you dont mind if i copy & paste them to a personal folder ... i need to read it again :) I understand and appreciate words but neva did have the ability the describe in such a wonderful way...
I came into this forum quite late ..probly about a week b4 J & J hit dry land.. i stayed on the sidelines just reading ..i became soo excited i couldnt hold back; so i joined in..i felt part of a huge family where everyone is happy and positive..i would talk to ppl at th shops here <W.A.> and it disappointed me to realise they werent even aware of what was happening in their own country..sadly! stuck in their own little vaccum.
Yes, i agree with what sumone else said..*We will never be quite the same again..and its really is special how many ppl were so positive(still are) in supporting 2 young men achieving their dream..
Well, i'm hooked and will be visiting here often to read and smile ..shame i didnt live on th East coast ..altho i am relatively new in this forum i feel like i have known you all a lifetime.
Anyway, in closing...LOL i think it was Stan who was saying he was tilting his computer so th fellas could have a downward run..and then after that, another person said they had tried to click and drag Lot 41 along the screen... LOL i think my daughter thinks i have lost the plot coz i spent the last 2 days in my room laughing ...
Take care ..i'm goin to read some more comments <: ]

I received the same email from Ch 7. TV3 - thank you for the footage. I was gutted to have been logging on up to 5 times a day over the last few months and get zip at the end. But for 2 young guys to melt down the web is unreal - is that a record too????
To everyone involved it has been a wonderful virtual journey. My son and I were sitting on his bed physically paddling the last few hundred yards with the boys it was such a real event. To be this close to a record in the making - it blows my mind. Have read every comment and today have logged on twice as I'm wondering what is happening. Oh the withdrawals - I am even cooking a dinner tonight!!

Ol Oiler - I have treasured your words and thoughts. My thoughts and prayers for you started a few days ago and wont stop. Good luck and god bless.

Thank you to everyone - James & Justine, Patrick, Luke and all the people in the background who we haven't come to know, forumites for a memorable, emotional and triumphant journey. It has been awesome.

    Okay,
Just tried to email Ol Oiler and it got kicked back. Can somebody give me a good email address? Thanks.

Also, just watched 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and loved it! Big fan of westerns...Also loved the Proposition with Guy Pierce whom, you will remember, got his big start in Prescilla, Queen of the Desert with Terrance Stamp (now who would have thunk it, a Texan enjoying a movie about Aussie drag queens...don't tell anyone!!!!)

Chanel seven reminds me of what TV1 in New Zealand did several years ago

Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran were boxing for the world title over 15 rounds. At 5.59 with one round to go of a very exciting and close fight ,TV1 went and played the six o'clock news. We in New Zealand were not impressed . I know how you Australians must feel

To james and justin and all forumites,
I tried to write this story while you were out in the ditch but My messages seem to get disallowed each time I sent one.

    ....................................." DOLPHIN STORY"......................................................

It's December in the seventies. Summer school holidays. My mate and I have saved our lawn mowing money all year and headed off to North Stradbroke Island for some fishing and surfing. In those days you could camp on the bluff at Point Lookout. Every afternoon like clockwork a thunderstorm would brew up in the mountains behind the Gold Coast hinterland and come roaring up the beach hit Point Lookout and pass out to sea. After one of these storms we decided to walk out to the end of the point to watch the storm and the sun set. There was this brilliant golden light gleaming on the wet pale rocks on the southern side of the headland. We stopped halfway out and directly below the cliff we notice a dolphin swimming in circles of about 20 meters diameter. Beyond the end of the point another dolphin was patrolling back and forth in straight lines of about 200 meters. After about ten minutes of this the circling dolphin dived for the bottom. We noticed a slight discoloured patch in the water then one more circle and dive to that patch and it nosed up a baby dolphin to the surface to take its first breath. The mother dolphin swam a few more circles with the baby dolphin right beside on the inside. The two then headed out to the end of the point to the father dolphin and the three swam north out of sight as the sunset and lit up the storm clouds, headland, beach and ocean with purples and reds.
HOW LUCKY WERE WE TO SEE THAT?
    Take care from Rocko
  5.

Well done J and J. A few things over the years have stirred my emotions with regard to "can it be done". The critics said Andrew Lloyd was a "pretender". He came from behind to win the Zatopek Classic. Dare to climb the massive North Face of Everest unassisted by a new route. McCartney Snape and Mortimer did it. Kayak across the Tasman. Two young Aussie guys have done it despite the elements. Once again the emotions have been stirred up and it"s great to be an Aussie. Well done guys.

Whoops, the excitement must have got to me - it's taken me this long to find the new forum thread, I kept clicking on the old one, which was bookmarked, and wondering why nobody was posting any more...duh...

Well, I put my congratulations on the old thread, but that's not the proper place for it, so I'll start again.

James and Justin, you achieved what you set out to do with style and grace and incredible courage, in the face of many difficulties and disappointments. I can't really express my admiration for you, since words are not adequate. From the beginning, you did it right; your preparations paid off, combined with the spirit you two brought to the endeavour.

Channel 7 was a great disappointment of course, and doubly so here in SA, where your landing happened before the end of the Sunrise program. Nevertheless, I was one of the lucky ones, because I had logged on before 5.00 AM that morning, and had not refreshed - so at least I was able to watch the counter go right down to zero and stop. Thank you for the counter Patrick; I don't know about anybody else, but I hung on that counter for hours, watching James and Justin draw steadily closer to their objective.

I just saw the boys again, on the Channel 10 news, putting on their new football jumpers, apparently given to them by the local team.

Taranaki, thank you for greeting the boys in a way that was appropriate to their achievement, and for coping with the crowds that descended on your quiet area. Thanks to the Maori people of Taranaki for bringing them in in the proper way. Thanks to the population of New Zealand for their hospitality to the boys.

Most of all, thanks to James and Justin, for allowing us all to be a part of your great adventure, albeit from our computer chairs. I believe you've inspired many of us to get up off those chairs and stretch ourselves a little.

Now for the future; I will be really interested to hear what the boys' next step may be.
