Keep on chuggin' water rats, Godzone is not too far away at last!
R & R and a pair of shoes awaits you no doubt.
Very gutsy journey so far. The power of mate-ship at work.
Good luck surfing LOT 41 ashore wherever the elements may take you in the next couple of days.

    Hi James and Justin,
In relation to your comments in the podcast stating that upon arrival in NZ, you will have no money or shoes... I believe I have a solution.

You could put your kayak up on ebay, for sale to Australians only, and local pickup only. That way, you could bum a ride home with whoever wins the item. You can even write that is is in 'as new' condition, and that it has only been used once ;)

No, you cannot do that to Lot 41.....
She is going to retire gracefully in...say....(how long does a monarch usually reign?.....).....20 -30 years time......and become ...A FLOATING HOTEL.......just like the QE2...

Its 5pm in New Plymouth and its clear and calm now. The strong SE wind and swell the boys were battling head-on out there in the Tasman yesterday and early today have now abated. I reckon the boys will be able to see the tip of Mount Taranaki for the first time at sunrise Saturday morning. It will be silhouetted against the dawn sky. Then they can really zero in on New Plymouth as the city is on the coast about 20km north of the mountain's summit.

Over the weekend the winds over coastal waters NW of New Plymouth are likely to tend NW and the swells flatten out, so conditions should be relatively favourable for the final stage of the journey into New Plymouth's Port Taranaki.

Hang in the guys, the worst is over, and a great welcome awaits you in New Plymouth.

Would the local Maori community be able to do a haka for the guys when they arrive? They certainly are warriors!

    g'day J & J
Yep I reckon old Ed'll be watching over you blokes
He'd smile & nod if you'd use his imortal phrase when you lift your legs over the side onto terra firma: "WE KNOCKED THE BASTARD OFF!"

I'd love to see a good old Maori welcome.

But here's all of us talking about how you should be welcomed...I just hope it doesn't delay a good feed, a hot shower & a LONG kip; by one second. These things alone would be like a wonderful science fiction fantasy to you blokes at the moment.

AFTER THAT, BY HORI, YOU DO REALISE, I HOPE, THAT YOU'RE IN FOR A PARTY!

HAS ANYONE CONTACTED THE MARKETING/PR MANAGERS OF QUANTAS OR AIR NZ YET? (THE 2ND AIRLINE TO MAKE THE OFFER ARE FOOLS-THEIR LOSS-THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST!)

I understand you're form just down the rd (Gordon)

It's all good- Waitara is just up the Rd from NP.

HOPE THE CLOUD LIFTS TO REVEAL THE MOUNTAIN- IT'LL BLOW YOU AWAY

    cheers
    carey

The Kai these boys deserve and can do them justice is a decent Hangi, using up so much energy mentaly and physicaly padeling the great Waaka Lot 41 across the ditch from the west island of New zealand, this will resore them back to full health in no time at all and fluid replacement by way of intraveinous Speights.
Well done boys keep up the good spirits this is truly an amazing and ultimate test of how strong a frienship can be. I take my hat off to you and Ed would be so proud of you.

    Cheers from the Flying Dutchman

I assume that its all been put in place but could Patrick maybe confirm that medical attention etc will be
    on hand when they arrive?
I suspect that they may not be able to walk out of the kayak and could have to be
    carried etc.
I understand it is dangerous to stand after a couple of days floating in the sea and assume
that sitting for 60 days, although not as extreme, could have some of the same affects over a longer period
    of time.

Is the arrival going to be podcast on-line for us couch/computer potatoes?
Its so good to see the kayak travelling in a straight line to its destination

Medical professionals will definitely be on standby for when the boys arrive. Keep posted to the Crossing the Ditch main page for podcasts, videos and webcam feeds in the final hours.

Bloody great effort lads, we've been watching your progress at home and at work since the get-up-and-go. Good on you Kiwi's, give em a good show (but remember that they left their shoes behind in Sydney so make sure that someone gives them a pair of thongs each so they can get into the clubhouse for a Tooheys or two).

Just a quick congratulations to the guys. Have been keeping track of you guys all the way and its fantastic that you are going to make it.

Dont worry if you miss the live cross on Sunrise there will always be the the documentary which will be much better!! You two are an inspiration. We all have things we want to achieve in life and you have done it together. What teamwork and mateship. I hope we are inspired to get off our butts and achieve our own goals.

This is better than any reality TV show - this is real people doing amazing things and we can share in their journey.

    To Bronnie von Lith

What a great visual treat we had on television.
Congratulations on organising the colourful flotilla.

New Plymouth, fantastic reception for the boys

I come from Forster, departure point, I think their should be some sort of a sister city/town bond formed between NP & Forster now
