All I can say, and say, and say, until I get told to shut up about you guys is, "You bloody, bloody beauties!" You two have faced enormous difficulties, what with wicked seas, the odd vortex or three and sore ‘everythings!’
    But you’ve done it.
You two are an inspiration, especially to us Kiwis. A Kiwi team attempting the same oceanic trek would have been rescued by now; in fact, long before now! And a Kiwi team would already be blaming the government, each other, or even their childhood. But never saying’ “We didn’t have the balls to stick it out.”
Well guys, look forward to seeing you hit land.

    Dear dRhod

Your comments have been aired - twice for emphasis no doubt.
That makes some of the content sound twice as bad.
Read the terms of service & perhaps lighten up on your prejudicial remarks - that would be appreciated.

    All,

It wasn't software updates on anyone's computers that caused the halt to position transmissions for several hours today, rather, a minor anomaly with the analysis process.

All has been back to normal since about 1800 AEDST.

    Greetings all

Can we have a "FORUMITE BOOK STARTED ON THEIR ARRIVAL" > We feel that we know these 2 guys personally like brothers and sisters .We all feel weve done the journey too and at the end of the day it would be great to Know we have left a little mark for this historic event.
This book can be taken around the various places of the world that the guys may visit.

A person knowledgeable in marine items told me that it is necessary to enter the Kawhia Harbour inlet from the north. This inlet is at lat 38.05.7.long 174.47.6. There is a beacon that flashes QW (quickly white) at elevation 7 metres, range 5 miles. If the tide is against the wind then the bar may not the best place to be. I've no personal knowledge about the harbour entrance but would think a night entrance would be out of the question. So nut it out carefully J/J - you are obviously two intelligent blokes.

About 1 km offshore and three to five km south of the southern point of the Kawhia entrance (I think thats Albatross Point) is an offshore mooring terminal for the Ironsand mine at Taharoa. About 1 week in three there is a large vessel moored to the buoy taking on ironsand slurry and then going through a de-watering process b4 heading for japan. I think NZSteel who operate the facility have a launch service the buoy and vessels taking on ironsand. Could provide assistance with pilotage if Kawhia is to be the "port of entry". Certainly, the folk of Kawhia will put on a great powhiri.

Chart details for Kawhia Harbour and the Taharoa Mooring Buoy may be accessed through the LINZ website for information only. Downloaded charts should not be used for navigation purposes. I guess John and Justin may have to rely on a pilot launch or local expertise. Chart numbers for Race Recon are NZ 4423 and NZ 4424
Go well guys , go strong. Kia ora, e toa, kia kaha.

    To the comment of dRhod,
I know you're enthusiastic and all, when you say, "But you've done it"

They haven't done it - not yet. There's still a lot of hard slog and hard paddling to do and it's possibly the most dangerous and difficult part of the journey. Let's not compromise this epic in any way, especially not by claiming victory before it's actually happened.

I wish them a successful and safe completion.
Hang in there and go for it guys. Godspeed.

    Hi Luke, Patrick and all,

You have done a bang up job! I really like how you have added details along the way during the journey. And now the large count down to New Plymouth, clicking down one meter at a time is a nice touch.

    ------
There is still something about the route efficiency chart that annoys me. And I think it is that when Justin and James move further from their destination in a day the idea of there being any efficiency to be zero! In fact they are going backwards some days, yet the route efficiency chart shows a .24 or .3 and it's grating.

I suggest that you change this calculation on future trips to add a negative number. If they are closer to their destination at the end of the day, the RE is positive, if they are farther from their destinat then the RE is negative.

(For a complex track some intended routes may intentionally take them farther from their final destination for the day. And the RE should actually use the days anticipated end point not the trips for the positive or negative calculation.)

I'm sure you have all pondered this, as there are likely 100s of calculations that could be performed on a single route. But this one just grates on me, that there should be any concept of efficiency on a day when you go backwards!

    Thanks
    Tom

Will your technology allow you to zoom in for a live coverage of the last few kms and landing in NZ?
It would be a fantastic finish to an amazing achievement for J&J
We all would love to see them up close as we feel they are 'our boys' now.

Hi Patrick and Race recon team...

I've been sending this without any luck since about midday yesterday, but your email address either doesn't exist as I belive it to, or it doesn't like my email address. Sooo after sending it twice yesterday and now again this morning, I've copied it here - a very big thank you from me..

    Subject: Thank you and Congratulations

    Hi Patrick,

Thank you for the great job you guys did in making the CTD expedition be alive for so many people in the world. A shame that the site went down, but in as much as it was close to unavoidable, it was probably a massive compliment that the site crashed due to overload. ..And let’s face it: in the scheme of things, I’m sure we’d all rather the site crashed than the voyage – the important things were always covered. Congratulations.

No doubt right now you are all enjoying the arrival of James and Justin, and won’t be reading this for some time, but the Thanks are here all the same.

Kind regards and very best wishes

    Kristen.

Well said, Kristen. I agree with every word.

Congratulations to James and Justin on completing the journey and realising your dream. Thanks to Patrick, Luke and the others at Race Recon for not only organising and supporting this epic feat but also making it accessible to us little guys. Thanks to the many Forum contributors who have kept morale high. A magnificent team effort.

And the next venture is ... ?

    Hi there,

Im new to all this. But I'm trying to find out how useful solar panels on expeditions are. I am trying to find out all the problems and issues which may relate to them.
Im interested in Flexible solar panels because of their obvious ease of portability, but am wondering how well they work in reality (e.g. issues with solar panel being perpendicular to the sun when it inherintly bends)

What are you guys using in terms of renewable energy? Having any problems with it?

    Thanks everyone
